2021 Ram 2500 Allison Transmission

While North American drivers prefer super-capable pickup trucks, the rest of the world rather sticks with something smaller and more efficient. South American is a perfect example, where we can find a lot of small pickups, based on classic passenger cars. Fiat Strada is one of them, as well as its corporal sibling, which comes completely redesigned for the next year, as the 2021 Ram 700. The new model comes with significant changes but keeps the same base approach.

2021 Ram 700 Redesign

The new model comes with a completely new design. The company uses a new MC-P platform, the same one that the company uses for the current-generation Argo. Both the Strada and 2021 Ram 700 have borrowed rear suspension from another Fiat model, called Mobi.

When it comes to the styling, things are notably different between the two siblings. While dimensions and overall dimensions are the same, the 2021 Ram 700 comes with a different front face. It takes a lot of inspiration from bigger Ram models, particularly the full-size 1500. That’s particularly notable on the grille, which features a pretty similar shape, as well as the familiar mesh grille.

When it comes to the body styles, you may count on two versions in the offer. The base trim level will come in single cab and double cab layouts. On the other side, higher trim levels will be available in a double cab model only.

Interior

Allison

When it comes to the interior design, the new pickup truck borrows most of the details from the Argo. This particularly refers to the dashboard. As we are talking about a model that’s designed primarily for the developing markets, things are rather simple. The overall quality isn’t particularly amazing and things are rather simple. The new model is rather about practicality and functionality. Still, the list of standard equipment seems more than decent. After all, this model comes equipped with the company’s modern UConnect infotainment system that runs on a 7-inch touchscreen. Furthermore, you may also count on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, as well as on things like Bluetooth, wireless charging and similar tech goodies.

2021 Ram 700 Engines

When it comes to powertrain, you may count on two familiar units from Fiat. Base models will come equipped with a familiar 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine, which puts around 85 horsepower. If you want an upgrade, you may count on a smaller but more efficient 1.3-liter turbo engine, which puts around 100 horsepower. Both engines come in pair with a five-speed manual transmission. Also, all models come equipped with the E-Locker traction control system.

2021 Ram 700 Release Date and Price

The 2021 Ram 700 will arrive in all South American markets by the end of the year. The price will vary depending on the market, but we can say it will in most cases go around 11.500-12.000 dollars converted.

The current generation of Ram’s HD series has been around for a couple of years but it looks like we are about to see some pretty big changes for the next year. According to the latest reports, FCA prepares a new transmission for these trucks, including the 2022 Ram 2500. More precisely, FCA is about to sign a contract with a new supplier. We are talking about a diesel version. On the other side, gasoline models will carry on in the same way.

2021 Ram 2500 Allison Transmission

Other than a new transmission, the 2022 Ram 2500 will continue with pretty much the same design characteristics. We count on the same overall layout, same styling and same interior design, which is by far the fanciest in the class. Other than the new transmission, things under the hood are about to remain the same too. We expect to see the 2022 Ram 2500 sometime in the second half of the next year.

2022 Ram 2500 Could Get New Transmission

The current model uses a well-known 6-speed unit from Aisin. This transmission is still pretty competitive but not exactly at the same level as units from rivals, which use more modern 10-speed gearboxes. That the reason why Ram wants to replace it and there are two options in the game when it comes to replacements.

One of them is ZF transmission. The two companies have done a pretty good job with several FCA models, so it’s no wonder that many reports suggest the same kind of cooperation in the case of the 2022 Ram 2500. However, the second option sounds more likely in our ears. It’s about Allison, which already supplies a new Chevy Silverado with a new 10-speed unit. We could see this unit under the hood of Ram HD models as well, but some sources also suggest that the famous American company is working on a completely new 9-speed transmission, designed especially for diesel trucks. Sounds quite obvious, doesn’t it?

2022 Ram 2500 Engines

While we are about to see a new transmission, the engine lineup is about to remain the same. You may count on two familiar engine options, where base models use a well-known 6.4-liter HEMI unit. This engine is good for about 410 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission

For most truckers, the diesel seems more interesting. Of course, we are talking about a 6.7-liter inline-six turbodiesel from Cummins, which in its base variant delivers 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. Some sources suggest that the 2022 Ram 2500 could come with a more powerful version of the engine in the offer, with a max output of 400 horsepower and 1.000 pound-feet of torque.

2022 Ram 2500 Redesign

We expect no design changes for the 2022 Ram 2500. This is still a pretty fresh model, which looks good and rides even better. Compared to the 3500 model, it features softer rear springs, in order to provide a smoother ride. Compared to the competition, it is far superior in this aspect. Visually, it comes with a familiar appearance, based on the standard 1500 half-ton pickup, with upgrades that make it more muscular. When it comes to novelties, the best we could see for the next year are new color options.

The same thing goes for interior design. No bigger changes are about to come and that definitely won’t be an issue. Simply, we are talking about by far the best looking cabin in the lass. Materials are great, as well as the build quality. Moreover, higher trims look pretty luxurious, nearly on par with numerous SUVs.

Trim Levels

The trim level organization is about o remain the same, so you may count on models like Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Long Horn, Limited and Power Wagon.

The Tradesman is a typical workhorse and you won’t find too much luxury there. It comes with things like steel wheels, without power accessories, and with vinyl upholstery. Also, it comes with a quite small 5.0-inch touchscreen.

The Big Horn adds things like chrome exterior trim, 18-inch steel wheels, an integrated trailer brake controller, remote locking and unlocking, a power-sliding rear window, remote ignition, cloth upholstery etc. So, we could say it’s a bit of an upgrade. Higher trim levels like Laramie, Longhorn and Limited are gradually adding more and more standard equipment.

Finally, there is the Power Wagon, which comes with loads of off-road upgrades. Some of the highlights are things like all-terrain tires, off-road shock absorbers, tow hooks, skid plates, a manual transfer case, electronically locking differentials with a 4.10 axle ratio, hill descent control, an integrated front winch, and an electronic disconnect for the front stabilizer bar.
